February

There's no point waiting any longer. Most of the mainline spring/summer merchandise is now out on the sales floor, including so-called 'cruise lines' and all accessories (these usually being the last to arrive, given the complexity of their manufacture). If there's a particular - and particularly popular - item you were after, you're probably already too late. You should have been waving your credit card a fortnight ago.

This isn't to say that there aren't still bargains to be had. February, moving into March, also sees the designer brands launch their warehouse sales, packed chock-full of samples (the one-off fashion items that the brands use to take orders from shops) and cancelled orders (items that were manufactured but then no longer wanted by the stores).

Meanwhile, the bigger wheels of fashion keep turning. At the beginning of the month come the women's ready-to-wear catwalk collections in New York, where most of the big American designers show. The middle of the month sees that London ready to wear shows, followed back-to-back by shows in Milan and then Paris.
