June/July
It’s almost sales time again. Designer-warehouse sales are still going strong, hoping to relieve you of your cash before the sales proper kick in again. Those in the know (i.e. those who have registered with the organisers ahead of the warehouse sales) can be invited to previews, usually one day ahead of opening to the general public. Some stores also run 'privilege lists', inviting V.I.C.s (very important customers) to preview evenings when they can buy items at sale prices ahead of the sales.
It may be also worth having a store card for some department stores too - not to load up with interest-heavy purchases you can’t pay off, but in order to be invited to sales previews at which an extra discount is offered to cardholders only. Even those not on lists or holding cards can make discreet enquiries with sales staff as to the marked-down prices of items then have an eye on.
The secret to successful sales shopping is pre-planning: a recce of each store, a note of the item you may want to buy if the price is right, an enquiry as to what the price will be and turning up on the first day of the sales to nab it. By July the summer sales are in full swing for most stores, running through to the end of the month.
